24 Hour Emergency Assistance Contact Information

If you are anywhere outside the US / Canada you will be calling collect to the USA. Here’s how you call collect:

If you are traveling in a country that uses an automated operator system, you may not be able to complete a collect call without the assistance of an AT&T operator.

You can create your own Customized Wallet Card from AT&T with access numbers for up to 10 different countries. This is a great idea if you know which countries you’re visiting.

Calling Tips:

  1. Dial the AT&T access number provided.
  2. An English-language voice prompt will ask you for the telephone number you are calling.
  3. Press zero or stay on the line and an AT&T Operator will assist you. Ask them to connect you collect to the appropriate number

Steve suggests you print calling information for all countries on your itinerary prior to your departure.

What You Need to Make a Travel Insurance Claim:

Important Note: These requirements vary by provider. Please refer to the terms, conditions, and exclusions contained in your insurance documents for the specific requirements of your coverage.

Travel insurance covers you both before and while you’re on your trip. Here’s what you’ll need to make a claim:

Claims involving loss due to “sickness”, “injury” or death require signed patient (or next of kin) authorization to release medical information and an attending physician’s statement.

Any serious Injury or any unforeseen serious medical condition:

  1. Occurring to You or a Traveling Companion, which is so disabling as to cause a reasonable person to delay, cancel, or interrupt their Trip;
  2. Occurring to a Family Member that is considered life threatening or requiring hospitalization; or
  3. Occurring to a Family Member requiring Your care.

For Trip Cancellation benefits, an actual examination by a licensed Physician must take place before the cancellation is made. For Trip Interruption benefits, this examination must take place during Your Trip.

No matter what happens, you’ll need an attending physician’s statement.

Does Your Existing Medical Insurance Cover You?

  • You may have a deductible of between $300 – $1000 with your existing medical insurance plan.
  • After the deductible, your plan will probably pay 80% of “covered expenses”. Tip: Secondary medical coverage can cover your deductible and copays. This means you’ll be responsible for 20% of those “covered expenses”.
  • You’d also be responsible for 100% of Non “covered expenses” under your travel insurance plan. Without coverage you’ll be responsible for 100% these expenses or costs.
    • Emergency Medical Transportation isn’t always covered under many medical insurance plans.
  • And there’s one glaring exception to the above information:
  • Although your Medicare supplement provides some coverage, a medical emergency could still be financially devastating to you.

What’s the solution?

  • Make sure your Travel Insurance plan includes coverage for medical and dental treatment associated with a medical or dental emergency incurred while traveling.
  • Double-check that your Travel Insurance plan also includes Emergency Medical Transportation coverage.
This is also known as Emergency Medical Evacuation or just Emergency Evacuation.

Helpful hints for filing a claim

  • Claims involving loss due to “sickness”, “injury” or death require signed patient (or next of kin) authorization to release medical information and an attending physician’s statement.
  • For Trip Cancellation benefits, an actual examination by a licensed Physician must take place before the cancellation is made. For Trip Interruption benefits, this examination must take place during Your Trip.
  • No matter what happens, you’ll need an attending physician’s statement.

Here are some more items you’ll need to file a claim. Be sure to keep all items until completion of your trip.

  • Receipts and itemized bills for all expenses for which you wish to be reimbursed.
  • Copies of any refunds or expense allowances received from your tour operator, travel agent or common carrier.
  • Any diagnosis(es) along with your itemized bills and receipts as well as an explanation of insurance payments or denials.

  • Copy of police or common carrier report which verifies the cause and duration of the delay.
